Alaska Denali Kidcare Application Information

Denali Kidcare is all about providing Alaskan kids with health insurance. It is an expansion of Medicaid that is supported by the State of Alaska. Every child is eligible regardless of whether their parents are working or not. Denali Kidcare covers most of the health requirements that children and teens have as they grow.

This program will ensure that most of your children's healthcare requirements are taken care of from the time they are born all the way through age 18. The aim is to prevent diseases and diagnose and treat them early.

Children covered by the program will receive the following services among others:

  • Paid visits to the doctor
  • Free eye examinations and eyeglasses
  • Free health checkups
  • Free dental examinations, tooth fillings and cleaning
  • Free hearing examinations and hearing aids
  • Free physical therapy
  • Free treatment for substance abuse
  • Free foot examination and treatments
  • Free chiropractic services
  • Free hospital care
  • Free lab tests
  • Free prescription drugs/li>
  • Free transportation for medical care

Children and pregnant women are not required to pay anything for these services. Nonetheless, teens aged 18 who are not pregnant may be asked to cost share a little amount for some services.

Eligibility Requirements

Nonetheless, one is generally eligible if the meet the following:

  • They are a child or youth aged 18 and below
  • You are a pregnant mother and can show evidence of pregnancy from your doctor
  • If they are Alaskan residents

Children, teens and women who are already covered by Indian Health Service are still eligible as long as they meet income guidelines. The same applies to those already covered by Tribal Health.

They are also eligible even if they have any other health insurance if the family's income is particularly low.

They should also note the following about the guidelines:

  • Income figures are calculated before tax.
  • The income of the parent, whether biological or adoptive, is used to determine eligibility.
  • Permanent Fund dividends are not considered part of income.
  • If there are employment-related expenses deducted per month they may apply.
  • If there are dependent care expenses deducted every month they may apply.
  • Payments made towards Child support may be considered as deductions.
  • The application must be submitted along with income records and proof of deductions.
  • Anyone may apply on their own behalf or on behalf of a child or teen.
  • If children have other health insurance it does not make them ineligible.
  • Service benefits may be considered.
